Organic Reach on Facebook is BACK!
I’ve got some very exciting news! Facebook organic reach is back.
This is something that I haven’t seen in many years and it’s a big deal for Facebook marketers and advertisers. The new organic reach could potentially change your strategy for how you use Facebook as a tool in your business.
What’s really interesting to me is that when I first got started in Facebook advertising in 2013, Facebook organic reach was working really well.
Many advertisers focused on getting likes through Facebook like campaigns (now usually called Facebook followers) and then posting to their pages and being able to market to those people over and over again.
It was pretty great. You could market to your page followers without having to pay each time.
But overtime Facebook evolved and they removed the ability for those page posts to be put in front of anyone but a tiny fraction of your followers.
For example, I have over 150,000 followers on my Facebook page and it’s not unusual for me to get 400 views on a video. That’s a tiny fraction of the people who follow my page.
When that happened, and Facebook decreased the reach of organic posts, advertisers adjusted. They started using conversion campaigns and paying every time they wanted to put something in front of people.
You can see why Meta made this change. They wanted businesses and advertisers to have to pay to put their stuff in front of people.
But what’s interesting is that right now things are changing and Facebook seems to be reverting in a specific category – Reels. That means that to some extent we may be able to use some of the old marketing tactics of getting page likes and followers in order to get our content in front of people.
You may know that on other social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok that a lot of people invest a lot of money into getting followers because they know that a good percentage of their followers are going to see their content.
However, for the last seven or eight years organic reach on Facebook has not been a thing, but Facebook Reels is starting to change that dynamic in Facebook.
My Facebook Reels Organic Reach Test
Recently, I started doing my own tests with Reels to see how they work for organic reach and the results have been interesting.
In order to get a good test I’ve been posting videos to my regular Facebook page and then posting very similar videos to Reels to see what happens.
The Reels that I posted with very similar content to my Facebook posts got on average 5 to 10 times the views that my posts did.
Typically if I would see 400 views on a Facebook post a Reel would get 4,000 views.
These videos are the same format, the same editing style, and the same length. But the Reel vs. the Facebook post were hugely different, with Reels winning by a landslide.
Now you might think that if I have an audience of 150,000 people and I am getting 4,000 views on a Reel that it’s not a huge percentage. But actually, it’s quite decent.
It’s right in line with what I see on other social media channels. For example in YouTube, if I get 150,000 subscribers and then get 6,000 video views in the first week of posting a video that’s a relatively decent number.
The same is true on Instagram and TikTok.
That means that these numbers are pretty in line with other social media platforms, so that’s pretty exciting to see.

It’s a Good Idea to Acquire More Followers and Post Reels
I’ve always been a big fan of acquiring more followers – probably more than most people. It’s a great way to get Facebook Group members and to show social proof that other people like you and that your business is trustworthy.
But now, acquiring followers is likely to become even more important. That’s because Reels is currently increasing reach for Facebook pages and allowing businesses to get their message out to more of their followers at no cost.
And because this is the same type of format that you use for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube shorts you can also reuse those videos on Facebook Reels and get more use out of your content. It’s a huge win.
You can acquire more followers by running Facebook like or follower campaigns.

The other big benefit that I see is that when you are running conversion campaigns you are going to also get followers to your Facebook business page. Those followers used to just be social proof, but now with this increased Reel reach those followers could also see your content over and over again – without having to pay over and over again.
This is pretty exciting!
